Last 6 Weeks

Not a lot happening lately but there has been the odd day that un-earthed a few finds.
These came from the Mount Main Beach which included a 10.7 gram 925 Silver Ring.
This day had to battle with some very unruly kids which ended up fighting over coins as I dug them, got to the stage of having Goldie's showing and me saying they were rubbish and going back after an hour after they had gone and collecting them

Went to a well known Park on the inner Harbour  and had a play around in the water which I have looked before but with a lot more hours on the E-trac came up with these

Most of the older coins have suffered from bad corrosion,2 English Half pennies,1 English Shilling,1 English Penny with only a Half Penny showing 1920 and a Silver Ring 4.7 grams
1 NZ Shlling and 2 Sixpences 1 1936,all coins came up black after being in the mud

And the last week saw some nice cuts opening up with one outside a popular surf club which gave up over $60 in coins, with what I was finding was hoping for some Gold but no luck this time

The Month of June

And plenty of walking for this lot and 1Silver Ring 7.3 grams at the Main Beach.
Was hoping for a Gold but not this time

Very few coins were found on the Main Beach most coming from subtle cuts that would develop in various places with most coming in the last week with the change in the lunar cycle

Heaps of lead as usual and other fishing gear and a zillion can tabs (must be getting rid of them by now) still rather dig them as some sound like Gold

Some Older Finds

Has been a interesting couple of weeks with a ever changing beach conditions and what it throws up

Plenty of new sand in places and removal in others and so some older finds and plenty of corroded coins and some nice Silver finds that have been hidden for years, will only show a few coins as there are too  many pic's
The Paua Dragon Fly is in very good nick, the Ring is also very old

The Ring 925 with 3 stones, may be Sapphire,Ring on the right of it is Sterling Silver the rest are 925

Amazing how more lucky you get when you put more time into searching ,waiting for the next Gold

Ring Recovery

Got a Email today from Helen regarding a lost Wedding Ring at a Beach Wedding yesterday South of Marine Parade the Mount

The Ring Bearer had dropped them both before the Wedding, one was found shortly afterward but not the other

Got there at 1.30pm and within 5 minutes had located it in the sand at the base of some stairs leading to the Beach

Very happy to help Helen out

Stayed at the Mount and managed a search in a area away from Beach goers not looked at a lot as there is not usually crowds around this spot often and finishing up in the usual spots when most had left
got a reasonable amount plus lots of steel rubbish

Gold and Platinum

Interesting afternoon at the Mount Thursday with 2 Rings found the first one a 9 ct Wedding Band 9.2 grams, this was followed 10 minutes later with what I thought was Silver but after closer inspection has 950 stamped on the inside and came in at 5.2 grams, both of these had spent sometime in the care of Neptune

These were accompanied by a selection of badly corroded coins due to what could be described as a massive sand up welling on a section of the Beach accompanied with layers of sea lettuce and kelp

The sand in places was of a texture not seen before on this section with some places built to a depth of half a metre which made digging a breeze

Went back last night with Colin but this had changed again with more Kelp and came up with very little

Jumped back up to the dry to be content with the leftovers of the Surf Carnival of rigging clamps, nuts and bolts, washers and a Hammer along with a few coins

Very nice inscription on the inside of the Gold Wedding Band

"Here Is My Heart Guard It Well"

Quite productive night at the Mount Beach last night with $23+ found, some Silver and a Seiko ladies watch that may have been lost very recently and would say be someone's prized possession

These will be handed in to the usual place

Met a couple of tourists that have never seen Metal detecting before and were very interested in what I was doing.
Gustavo a Mexican asked me if he could video my progress down the beach,he must now think that this is the way to make money as I pulled coin after coin up telling him what it was before I saw it

When I hit the watch I knew it was something interesting

Very enjoyable

Been out a few times to a couple of places were some Rings have been lost and not found yet due to being lost in the tide and have been putting the time in searching for these

There has been a little sand movement and was hoping the odd ring may  appear, most of the Bling stuff has appeared were there was nothing previously, waiting for some rough weather for some sand erosion

Half of the spendables are of the Mount Main Beach but numbers are thinning out as we move into Autumn

Sunday, 17 February 2013

Met at the South Mount Beach this morning with kiwijim and Shaggy(Colin) to continue the search for a lost high value Ring but prior to this I started on the Mount Main Beach at 5.45 for about $13

Alas with all the searching put in to find this Ring have come up empty handed so far

Total for this morning over $22 plus a pendant

Got some finds from New years morning returned from Police lost property the other day

Watch not going at the moment(low value),Silver ring 8.0 grams and a Titanium 2 piece ring, the outside rotates on the inner section and is 7.0 grams

A New Year and a new blog

Any recent lost jewellery goes for the 90day holiday at the Mount Police Station(got everything back so far)
